ISO 45001:2018

On March 12, 2018, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the new standard ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. Requirements with instructions for application. The standard replaced the existing BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 standard. A grace period of 3 years was set for transition from BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 to ISO 45001: 2018, with the final date of validity of the certificates issued in accordance with BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 being 12.03.2021



The Certification and Inspection Bulgaria (CIB) management as a responsible partner wants to pay attention to the customers who are going to have the initial certification or recertification for the following:
• The CIB will accept initial certification and re-certification requests under BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 until 31.12.2018.
• From 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019 applications for initial certification and recertification will be accepted under BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 as well as applications for certification and recertification under the new ISO 45001: 2018
• After 01.01.2020, applications for certification and re-certification will be accepted only under the new ISO 45001: 2018 standard.

Clients of CIB holding a certificate of their BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 standard, to which the First / Second Surveilance or Recertification Audit under the current Audit Schedule is due for the period 01.01.2019 - 12.03.2021, must have taking into account the following::

1. They must update their Management Systems (MS) in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements of the new ISO 45001: 2018 standard. The update can be done independently and / or with the help of an external consultant.
2. Have internal audits and reviews by the management of the so-updated Management System Health Safety at work in order to confirm their readiness to conduct external audits by the Certification Entities for transition to the new standard.
3. This will ensure that audits planned under the existing program (First / Second Surveillance or Resertification) are conducted within the timeframes planned under the CIB certification contracts, which will be cost effective for businesses.
4. If it is not possible to carry out audits for transition to the new Standard during a regular Surveilance or Resertification Audit, an extraordinary transition audit will be required to maintain the validity of BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 certificates issued so far. The cost of such audits will be calculated in accordance with the pricing procedure in force in the CIB.
